Our approach

While each therapist has their own, unique and individual style of therapy, the couples therapists at Tend all incorporate an emotionally-focused, strengths-based, pragmatic and practical approach with couples to get to the heart of what’s going on and uncover some of the deeper issues that could be preventing you and your partner from moving forward.

Our couples therapists incorporate their training and experience with the Gottman Method, family systems and marriage and family therapy, mindfulness and awareness, trauma-informed, affair recovery, shame and vulnerability research through Brené Brown, and so much more.

We will work together with you to identify your specific goals and needs for couples therapy, your wants and desires for your relationship, and navigate this path with you.

Benefits of Couples Therapy in Naperville, IL

Many couples wait years before seeking help, often when the relationship is already in significant distress. But couples therapy is most effective when started early and the benefits extend far beyond solving immediate conflict. Research on evidence-based approaches like the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy shows that couples therapy produces lasting positive change for most couples who engage with the process.

Common benefits our clients experience include:

•  Clearer, more effective communication that reduces misunderstanding and frustration

•  Improved conflict resolution skills that help you argue less destructively and repair more quickly

•  Deeper emotional intimacy and a renewed sense of partnership

•  Healing from betrayal, infidelity, or trust ruptures

•  A shared framework for navigating life transitions (new baby, career changes, loss, aging parents)

•  Tools to identify and shift recurring patterns that keep you stuck

At Tend, our couples therapists in Naperville, Illinois work with you collaboratively — not as a referee, but as a skilled guide helping you both feel seen, heard, and moving forward.
