  • Experience frequent power struggles around rules, responsibilities, screen time, bedtime, or sibling conflicts.

  • See behaviors in their children they’d like to better understand and address.

  • Are facing the complexities of a blended family or navigating the painful transitions of divorce.

Who We Support

We work with families in all their forms, including parents, caregivers, co-parents, couples, and individual family members. Therapy can provide support for those who:

  • Want to improve relationships with parents, siblings, or other family members but aren’t sure how.

  • Long to be the best parent they can be but feel uncertain about how to move forward.

  • Are part of an LGBTQ+ family and want support in navigating identity, inclusion, and family dynamics.

  • Are managing differing views on faith and values and want to approach them with respect and understanding.

  • Are struggling with estrangement and want to process grief, set boundaries, or explore the possibility of reconnection.

Our Approach

Every family is different, and there is no single roadmap to creating harmony at home. Our work together is tailored to your family’s unique needs, with an emphasis on practical strategies, emotional awareness, and lasting change. We draw from research-based approaches to help parents manage challenges like anxiety, ADHD, and behavioral struggles in their children; support families through major life transitions; and create parenting strategies that align with their values and goals.

For divorcing or separated parents, we provide guidance to protect children from conflict, establish healthy co-parenting relationships, and support emotional well-being through transition. For blended families, we help create intentional plans for connection, communication, and respect. Whether working with a single parent, a couple, or the entire family, we focus on fostering understanding, resilience, and a deeper sense of belonging.

What to Expect

Sessions typically last 50 to 55 minutes, and the length of therapy depends on each family’s goals and circumstances. Some families find what they need in just a few sessions, while others benefit from ongoing support over time. There are no pre-determined number of sessions—only a process that unfolds at the pace that feels right for you.

At Tend Therapy, we believe every family deserves the opportunity to invest in their well-being. Whether you’re working through a specific challenge or simply want to cultivate a more connected and intentional family life, we are here to support you.

I am a Parenting Coach and Family Therapist, Social Worker and Educator and my deep passion is working to strengthen parent and child relationships. How to Choose a Therapist for Family Counseling in Naperville, IL

Finding the right therapist for your family is one of the most important steps you can take. Here are a few things to look for:

1. Specialized training in family systems therapy. Family counseling is its own area of clinical expertise, distinct from individual or couples therapy. Look for a therapist with specific training in family systems, parent-child dynamics, and developmental stages.

2. Experience with your family’s specific challenges. Whether you’re navigating a blended family, a teen in crisis, co-parenting conflict, estrangement, or a major life transition, look for a therapist who has worked with those issues before.

3. A warm, neutral approach. The best family therapists hold space for everyone in the room — parents and children alike — without taking sides or making anyone feel blamed.

4. Flexibility and accessibility. Consider whether the therapist offers in-person sessions near you, online options, and scheduling that works for a family’s busy life.

At Tend Therapy Space in Naperville, Illinois, our parent and family therapists offer all of the above. We work with families at every stage. from toddlers to adult children, and we’d love to help you find the right fit.
